Making Tiny Living Spaces Work

You can still visit the huge homes and castles built and occupied by royalty worldwide. Today, though, it is not just kings and queens who line in castle size home, it is people just like you and me. However, there are also more and more people who not only live in small homes but choose to live in very very small homes.

And, it is not only in urban areas like Tokyo or New York City, where people are forced to sometimes live in smaller places, you can find tiny homes all around nowadays. Yes, it is not always a choice, especially, as I mentioned, if you live in big cities like the ones mentioned but, more and more people are making the choice to live in tiny houses for various reasons like being more green.

A Yale grad student is currently living in his van to save money while in school. A company that makes and sells tiny homes called Tumbleweed Tiny House Company is doing very well selling homes ranging in size from as large as 837 square feet to as small as 65 square feet. In urban areas, you can find people choosing to live in apartments ever smaller and smaller.

Why live in a tiny home? There are actually many reasons. Three main things come to mind which are, saving the environment, easy of maintenance and of course, cost. You save tons of time and money on regular cleaning, for instance. In a larger home you may go through numerous vacuums but in a tiny home, especially if you get a top of the line like the Dyson upright vacuum cleaner, you’ll have the place dirt free in a jiffy and probably never have to purchase another vacuum again.

Tiny homes may look small on the outside but, on the inside, they can be made quite roomy and comfortable. With things like strategically placed mirrors and other ideas a good interior designer can suggest, your home can appear much larger. There are tons of do-it-yourself ideas as well you can find on the Internet for making the most of small spaces. Another example is creating of buying furniture that is dual purpose like a sofa/book shelf. Once again, if you buy small but buy the best, like a Delonghi space heater, you will not need central heating and your house will be plenty warm.

You can not only save money by buying top of the line but, sometimes, you can save by not buying necessarily the best things. It is doubtful that you will have many dinner guests if your home is tiny so, why spend on fine china or even steel pots and pans. You can get really nice stuff like an anodized cookware set that doesn’t cost as much but does the job.

No, not all people are cut out for tiny home living. In fact, many would go crazy without their precious space. But, if you do fit the mold and the home, you can save quite a bit of money and even save the environment. Plus, you may actually find it quite a refreshing change.
