Selecting a wedding gown is possibly one of the most exciting things for a bride to do. Preparing your wedding and finding a wedding dress go hand in hand in their enjoyment. Regardless of whether you know what kind of gown you want or not, it is a dress you will remember for the rest of your life. By having this at the forefront of your thoughts, it’s the section of your wedding that your wedding planner and you don’t want to sit around until the day before your wedding to plan. Here are some tips to help get your gown search started!
Chances are, your wedding gown won’t arrive until about four to six months following your order. So start looking for the perfect gown EARLY! Keep in mind that you’ll want to have plenty of time for fitting your dress and then also altering it. Don’t under-estimate how long it might take to find the gown for you. All those fittings will take time
When it comes to your gown budget, make sure that you take into consideration things such as the headpiece/veil, shoes, gloves, jewelry, undergarments, and other accessories.
Gowns don’t look the same on the hangar as they do on you! Have your wedding planner remind you of this. You might find that a gorgeous gown on the hanger might not flatter your figure as you’d hoped. It’s very, very important that you try it on before buying it!
Do not be afraid to ask questions to the bridal shop staff or your wedding planner. You’re paying them to help, so don’t be afraid to use their wedding planning expertise. When speaking with your planner, it will give them a good idea what style you’re searching for.
Don’t make the mistake of ordering a gown that is “only one size smaller” than your usual size. It’s much cheaper to order the right size, instead of ordering smaller with the promise to yourself that you’ll lose weight before the wedding.
When your gown arrives in the store, take your wedding planner with you to check it out at the store. Do a quick fitting with the dress on before buying it.
Make sure you check out all of the angles when you try the dress on. Finding something you don’t like at the store is much easier to fix than finding it once you get home, so make sure you tell your wedding planner or store staff any imperfections that you find. While at the store, they’ll be able to fix any problems that you may find.
With all of this in mind, I wish you the best of luck in your search for the perfect wedding gown…YOUR perfect gown!
